About The Artist

Welcome to my art studio! I'm Winya, a Dutch artist working from a small studio based in London. Painting mainly with acrylics, I'm exploring the boundaries of expressive art, usually in the way of bright-coloured animal portraits and figurative artwork.

As a kid growing up in the Netherlands I had always been loving my crafts. If up to me I would always choose to spend my time creating, dancing, singing, doing theatre, colouring and drawing. I even got my own easle and brief case full of paint at the age of ten. It was pretty obvious I would want to do anything creative when I'd grown up.

When the time came I applied to art school, got in, but then over Summer it didn't feel right, and decided to wait a year to figure out what I really wanted to do. So I worked a job in a local restaurant, did a weekend course at the art school and visited many open days at Uni's to find the right path for me.

I found my interest in language, science and working with people come together in Speech and Language Therapy. I signed up for 4 years study and found I could use my creativity in problem solving while creating resources for the children.

Graduated as a Qualified Speech and Language Therapist I started my first job in a clinic, and after a year decide it was time to see more of the world. I booked a single ticket to Asia and took up an online job as a Dutch second language teacher.

Coming back to Europe and moving to England, living with my partner, picking up another SLT job, I felt I missed being creative in a more visual way. I decided to buy the cheapest paint I could find and started putting it on paper. Litterally! I loved it.

Fast forward 2 years and here I was exhibiting at my first art fair, showing a variety of vibrant colours, playing with contrast and light in my paintings, trying to spread a little fun and creativity with my artwork.

Please enjoy!
